The single chair bed used to be a cheap options to create added sleeping for students; this has all changed now.
There are two basic styles of single chair bed; the foam mattress or the metal framed mattress.

The foam chair bed is a simple design. It is basically a basic wooden structure which forms the bottom and back of the chair. Attached to this is the foam mattress. This literally unfolds to create a mattress which lies on the floor.
The foam chair bed is great for kids. It is a perfect solution for sleep overs. However, it is not that comfortable for adults and is certainly not a bed you would want to sleep on for many nights.
Designers have realised that it is often used in kids rooms and as a result they have covered these with fabrics which will appeal to the younger family members.
For adults there is no doubt that the best single chair bed is one which as a supported mattress. These will usually look like a traditional armchair when folded up. The cushions then remove and underneath the seat there is a bed, rather similar to a camp bed. Although this style of bed only has a thin mattress they are usually very comfortable. The mattress will be on a metal frame which will have a mesh or fabric, held taught to the frame with stiff metal springs. This setup means that a goods night sleep can be had, even with only a thin mattress.
If you are planning on sleeping on, or having a guest on your single chair bed for any period of time then you may want to buy one of the mattress accessories to add to their comfort.
The most popular mattress accessories are either the memory foam topper or a feather topper. The memory foam topper will usually have to be removed before the bed can be returned to a chair, however, there is sometimes space for a feather topper to be folded up with the mattress.
If you cannot fit the topper in the bed when in a folded position it is not usually too much bother as both these style toppers can be quiet easily rolled and stored at the bottom of a cupboard.
All in the single chair bed is a versatile piece of furniture which will also look attractive in any room.
